Our "stay-cation" in SLC

As we pondered our options on where to go on vacation this year we decided against spending long hours in the car, burning hundreds of dollars in gas, and listening to screaming and whining children. So, we decided to do a stay-cation. There was a lot of things we hadn't done yet around the Wasatch Front and we could take all that gas money and just have fun.
Monday morning we set out early for a hike in Big Cottonwood Canyon. We successfully completed a 4.5 mile hike with the two children. We usually start these hikes, but end up turning around before we reach our destination. We saw a moose and her calf very close to the trail and the wildflowers were beautiful. It was well worth the back ache induced from carrying Rachael. We then went to the Living Planet Aquarium and stayed in a hotel that night.

Tuesday we headed off to Thanksgiving Pointe and went to the Gardens and the Museum of Ancient Life. They were both very cool and the gardens is one of my favorite things we did all week.

Wednesday we went to Jungle Jim's Playland and the children had a blast. I have to admit that I also had fun riding the rides I could fit on--and sometimes it was a tight sqeeze. That night we went to see Wall-E at the Redwood Drive-In and it was a lot of fun---more fun if Rachael would have gone to sleep as planned.

Thursday we went to the Discovery Gateway Children's Museum. This is a great place for children, but a little pricey to do very often. James had so much fun playing in the pretend Market and Construction Zone. We spent 5 hours there and James had to be bribed away! Isn't he adorable!

Looks like a lot of fun! It was funny seeing Rachel go for the popcorn at the drive-inn. Kenna is crazy about popcorn. Glad you are having fun.

I think the "staycation" is a great idea! That is impressive that James made the 4.5 mile hike :) I'll be looking for more pictures...

That picture of Jake carrying both kids is SO CUTE! It reminded me of Christian doing that crossing the river at Donut Falls. I agree you have a great husband. I enjoy talking with him and so does Christian so we have to get together again regularly as couples. They have so much in common. Sunday will be fun. I'm glad you were able to try Jungle Jims, Thanksgiving Point and Discovery Gateway. My kids love those places too although sometimes more than I do. EXHAUSTING. I about hated Discovery Gateway after three hours so I am very impressed you were able to stay for 5 hours! Although Christian wasn't with me last time but still! I'm very impressed. The pictures were all so cute. Rachel just gets cuter every time I see her and I'm loving watching her grow into her personality so much. We had so much fun watching her last week she was just so adorable and cracking me up so much as she was trying out every possible seat option every few seconds when the movie was on and trying to feed me chips and salsa as fast as her chubby hands could go. Something about chubby toddlers drives me crazy so I'm glad Braeden hasn't lost all of his chubbiness yet.
